… and How Mobile is the Key for Forward Thinking Controllers

While sound technology has been steadily evolving since the 80s, the average studio still contains the same interface tools that they did 30 years ago. The average synth contains dozens of dimensions of tweak-ability yet only a single Mod Wheel for controlling them. And don’t get me started about vibrato…

During this time we’ve had wind controllers, theremins, laser harps, touch ribbons, and other multi-dimensional expressive controllers yet somehow they’ve never fully taken hold. In this talk, we’ll explore the reasons why and demonstrates just how amazing this unlocked potential can be using the AC Sabre MIDI Instrument and Motion Controller for iOS along with the Moog Model 15 and other popular iPad synths.

We’ll also discuss the vital importance of the modern design science of UX (User Experience) and give a tour of the 4-tiered “immediacy hierarchy” designed into the AC Sabre interface.
