The smartphone has a huge impact on our lives, but most people never stop and think about how they’re influenced by their phones. This might change after experiencing Close Call: a music theater show where the audience plays along with a bigband, using a specially designed musical app on their smartphones.

Close Call will play at festivals and at high schools and is to be premiered this September at the Gaudeamus Muziekweek Utrecht, The Netherlands.

In this Session composer Arthur Wagenaar and app-designer Laurens van der Wee will present the Close Call-app and the ideas behind it (work in progress) and will talk about how music can be used for new media education and raising consciousness in a deeper way than words alone ever can.
