Pirkka Karppinen is a Finnish born musician and pedagogue who has been living in Hamburg, Germany since 2005. In his studies for the degree of Master of Education at the University of Hamburg and Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg Pirkka was involved in manifold projects and had the possibility to study various instruments (drums / percussion, woodwinds, piano etc.)

As a trumpet player in various bands Pirkka has toured Europe extensively as well as globally (e.g. China, Chile, United Arab Emirates). In addition to traditional ways of making music he has undertaken HipHop projects with children and young adults involving sampling and editing of musical contents.

Since November 2016 he has been working at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg as a pedagogue in the department World of Instruments (“Instrumentenwelt”). One of courses – Klangsafari – includes working with the music app vidibox and thus let’s the participants explore this new landmark of Hamburg with the aid of app technologies.
